How to be a Swan

When swimming, swans have a certain regal, graceful quality, even if below the surface, they have to paddle powerfully against the current.

So, when it comes to event management or a site launch, we do the same for you – working calmly, quickly and efficiently, with you seeing smooth progress and not the flurried effort to make it all happen.

Our aim is to make things easy for you.

This year’s BBC Countryfile Live event at Blenheim Palace typified that.

This multi-faceted and ambitious extravaganza attracts more than 120,000 people and brings together hundreds of brands and businesses, international, national and local, to showcase their wares and skills – plus a series of celebrity-fronted live events over four, jam-packed, days.

  • The challenge: A fixed and onrushing deadline, multiple signage requirements from small to large, both onsite and offsite and for different brands
  • The solution: Supply and install a selection of branded banners, boards, flags, frames, stands, signs, wraps and vinyl across the site and the surrounding county, using a variety of materials and techniques and to a tight budget – and change and update them when and where appropriate.
  • The execution: Job done, swan-like – to budget and to time.

We needed to create impact and clarity not just across the Countryfile footprint, but also to supply attention-grabbing signs at strategic points across the surrounding region.

At the event itself, signage needed not just to reinforce the brand, but to provide clear and practical direction-finding.  This involved using a full range of display materials – from feather flags and a multitude of different-sized banners, to large stack-signs and hoardings, to way-finders and boards of all sizes, to bespoke frames and signs.  Many of the signs also needed constant updating to keep up with a rolling schedule of events.

Sound familiar … ?

Was it perfect?

To get everything ready in time involved tight deadlines, tighter turnarounds, priority juggling, managing competing client requirements – and last-minute changes right down to the wire, which we handled with aplomb.

Were we absolutely perfect?  No, of course not – we work in the real world and there was the odd glitch which we paddled even harder to fix. We did move fast to put things right and as the Head of Countryfile Live’s event company commented:

“[This} is a huge, ambitious and complex event – and ultimately a great success for all who came and all concerned.  When it came to the signage, Deckle Edge/City & County in their first year with us, were instrumental in that success; their professionalism, quality of printing, can-do attitude and speed of turnaround is to be commended.  We’re looking forward to working together going forwards.”

We’ve retained Countryfile Live for 2019 at Blenheim and also at Castle Howard, testament to our ability to produce what’s needed, when it’s needed – and in a swan-like way.

When you’re under pressure and need a building wrapped, an event dressed, a dazzling marketing suite created, eye-catching hoarding, light boxes and monoliths to ‘Ta-dah’ your project – let us be your swan.

Just get in touch here. Or drop us an email at  – we’ll be happy to do the paddling for you.

Best wishes,
